HI!
I’m May, a textile weaver and maker based on Bundjalung Country in the Northern Rivers, NSW, Australia.
Before weaving, I was a sewist. After weaving, I’ll be a preserver.
Nine years into my journey with textiles, and it still feels like the beginning of a lifelong practice.
Since 2020, I’ve worked within the Saori weaving tradition — a Japanese Zen philosophy rooted in Wabi-Sabi, which embraces imperfection and celebrates intuition. It has taught me to trust the process, to let go of control, and to see beauty in what unfolds naturally.
Every piece I weave holds part of me — my story, my resilience, my creativity. What begins as loose, disconnected threads slowly becomes whole, each one carrying memory, place, and intention.
My Thai ancestry acts as a quiet guide in my work, honouring traditional craft through a contemporary lens. I weave mostly with natural fibres — cotton, hemp, linen, and silk — on a modern floor loom that travels with me. These materials, shaped by hand and heart, become wearable art for the body and home.
I am most at peace when creating textiles that reflect the landscapes I move through, the rhythms of nature, and the totems that find me. I often follow unusual forms, letting them shape the outcome more than any plan ever could.
My work is collected and commissioned internationally, and I deeply value collaborations with local makers. Wherever possible, I source fibres from family-run mills and traditional artisans across Australia, Thailand, and Japan. I believe handwoven textiles are not only beautiful — they’re a return to slowness, to connection, to remembering where we come from.
